Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit to preheat.
  2. Take a brown paper bag and cut it into pieces that will cover the surface of two baking sheets.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine egg whites, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat the mixture until it becomes frothy and soft peaks start to develop.
  4. Keep beating the egg whites while gradually adding the sugar one spoonful at a time.
  5. Continue beating until all the sugar is incorporated and stiff peaks form.
  6. Using a pastry brush or a spoon, coat the inside of a piping bag with stripes of yellow and orange food coloring.
  7. Fill the piping bag with the meringue mixture, then pipe small cookie shapes onto the paper-lined baking sheets.
  8. Place the sheets in the oven and bake for 40 minutes. Then turn off the heat, crack the oven door, and let the cookies cool completely before removing them.
