This tutorial walks you through crafting a complete Olivia costume using accessible materials. You will construct felt ears with pipe cleaners, customize a red shirt with glittered lettering, assemble a ribbon and tulle tutu without sewing, and transform plain shoes with red spray paint and glitter.
You'll need
Directions
- Cut two ear shapes from your felt. Insert a pipe cleaner into each ear to maintain its structure, then gently pack a small amount of stuffing inside. Attach vibrant red bows to the felt, and use hot glue to fasten the finished ears onto your headband.
- Grab your red shirt and place the freezer paper stencil over the front. Paint the word OLIVIA across the fabric using white fabric paint. Once dry, carefully trace over the letters with silver glitter paint for a sparkling finish.
- Create the skirt by cutting strips of red ribbon and tulle. Tie the pieces together in a continuous loop to form the tutu, completely skipping any sewing steps.
- Spray your old white shoes with red paint. While the paint is still tacky, sprinkle red glitter over them and set with Mod Podge. Apply a clear coat to seal the design, then hot glue a piece of ribbon to the inside of each shoe to serve as laces.
