Create a Halloween tablescape with homemade spider web placemats from trash bags and spider napkin rings from wire and a plastic spider. The steps are simple: cut a circular trash bag into a web pattern, then craft a wire ring with a spider to hold napkins. This budget-friendly decor will wow your guests.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Lay your black trash bag flat and trace a circle larger than your dinner plates using a cardboard cake base or similar round object. Cut along the line; because the bag is folded, you'll get two placemats at once.
  2. Fold the circle in half, then into quarters, and finally into eighths to form a wedge shape.
  3. Make horizontal cuts from the folded edge toward the center, stopping before the top point, so the center remains uncut.
  4. Carefully unfold the trash bag to reveal a spider web pattern.
  5. Wrap wire around a cylindrical object, like a paint bottle, about 40 times. Cut the end and tuck it under the loops to secure a ring.
  6. Remove the wire ring from the cylinder and hot glue a plastic spider ring onto it, ensuring the ring doesn't stick to the cylinder.
  7. Set your table with the web placemats and slide the spider rings over folded napkins as napkin holders.
