Ghost Hardboiled Eggs
Turn your hardboiled eggs into spooky ghosts with just two straws and a simple carving trick.

These ghost hardboiled eggs are a fun Halloween snack that's easy to make. After cooking the eggs perfectly, you'll slice the bottoms flat so they stand, then use straws to carve out cute ghost faces. A regular straw makes the eyes, and a larger straw (squeezed oval) creates the mouth.
Ingredients
Directions
- Put 6 large eggs into a large pot and add cold water until the water level is about an inch above the eggs.
- Heat the pot until the water reaches a full boil, then put the lid on and immediately remove from heat.
- Let the eggs sit in the covered pot for exactly 12 minutes.
- Move the eggs to a bowl filled with ice water and let them cool for 14 minutes.
- Cut a thin slice off the bottom of each egg so it can stand upright. Then, take a regular-sized drinking straw and push it into the narrow top end where you want the ghost's eyes to be. Insert the straw only through the egg white, stopping before you reach the firm yolk. Twist the straw to cut a circle, then pull it out at a slight angle to keep the cut-out piece inside the straw. Squeeze the straw to pop out the piece, and repeat for the second eye.
- Use a larger straw to make the mouth the same way. Tip: To create an oval-shaped mouth, squeeze the middle of the straw into an oval before inserting it into the egg.
