This project shows you how to create a spooky yet glamorous painting using acrylic paint scraped with cardboard strips. Draw ghost faces, then embellish with rhinestones to evoke a starry night sky.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Take a piece of cardboard and slice it into strips of varying widths; these will serve as your painting scrapers.
  2. Squeeze acrylic paints directly onto your canvas. Using bottles with pointed tips gives better control, but pouring straight from the bottle works just fine.
  3. Using the cardboard strips, drag the paint across the canvas. Overlap different colors to create blended, swirly effects.
  4. Once the paint is spread, use a black acrylic pen, a fine brush with black paint, or a black Sharpie to draw ghostly eyes onto the painted shapes.
  5. Let the canvas dry completely. Fix any mistakes by painting over them with black paint and adding a few extra strokes to blend it in.
  6. Stick irregular rhinestones in clear, gray, and gold above the ghosts at random. If the self-adhesive is weak, secure them with clear tacky glue.
  7. Finish the piece by adding moon-shaped and star-shaped gemstones to complete the 'Starry Night' look.
