These festive Halloween cookies start with a classic sugar cookie base. After chilling and cutting into fun shapes, they bake up tender and ready for your favorite icing and sprinkles. Perfect for parties or a creepy-crafty family activity.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in 1 large egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms, then stir in 1/2 cup of Halloween-themed sprinkles.
  5. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Roll out one disc of dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness, then cut into Halloween shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
