These marshmallow spider web doughnuts are a fun Halloween treat. Baked doughnuts are coated in purple candy, topped with stretchy marshmallow webs, and adorned with chocolate spiders and candy bugs.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 425°F and coat a doughnut pan with nonstick spray. In a large bowl, whisk together sifted cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Pour in buttermilk, beaten eggs, oil, and vanilla, then mix until just combined (the batter will be thick). Spoon the batter into a piping bag with a 1/2-inch opening cut in the tip and pipe into the pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, until the tops spring back when touched. Let the doughnuts rest in the pan for 2 minutes, then turn them onto a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with any remaining batter.
  2. Position a wire cooling rack over two large baking sheets. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the purple candy wafers and heavy cream. Microwave on full power for 1 minute and 15 seconds, let stand for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth and shiny. Dip the top of each doughnut into the melted candy, pressing gently so the front side is coated. Set each doughnut face-up on the rack and let sit until firm, about 20 minutes.
  3. Place the marshmallows in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on full power for 30 seconds. They should puff up and lose their shape. Stir briefly to deflate them and allow to cool a little. Using your thumbs and forefingers, grab some marshmallow and stretch it over the surface of a doughnut. Repeat until each doughnut is covered in a marshmallow web.
  4. Fill a disposable piping bag or a zip-top bag with a snipped corner with the melted chocolate. Pipe the chocolate into the cavities of a 2-inch spider mold. Freeze until solid, about 20 minutes. Pop the chocolate spiders out and let them come to room temperature (roughly 7 minutes). Set a spider on each doughnut and sprinkle candy bugs across the marshmallow webbing for a creepy treat that monsters of all ages will love.
