Halloween Lamp Post for Hitchcock-Inspired Porch Decor!
Transform a curbside lamp post and thrifted chalkboard into a Hitchcock-worthy Halloween porch display.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at sadieseasongoods.com.
This project repurposes a Victorian street lamp holder and a small chalkboard to create an eerie, Hitchcock-inspired porch decoration. You'll drill a hole through the lantern, hang a vintage-stained sign with chains, and finish with spiderwebs, a crow, and a candle for a chilling effect.
You'll need
Directions
- Using a drill fitted with a high-quality unibit and a bit of multi-purpose oil, bore a half-inch hole straight through both sides of the Victorian street lamp candle holder.
- Slide a wooden dowel from the craft store through the hole you just created in the lamp post.
- Apply strips of wide painter’s tape over the chalkboard surface of the thrifted small chalkboard to shield it from stain.
- Give the wooden frame of the small chalkboard a vintage appearance by applying wood stain.
- Paint the wooden dowel black so it coordinates with the lamp post.
- Screw cup hooks into a piece of scrap wood, then spray paint them to achieve an antique Victorian look.
- Hold a length of chain using a DIY-dedicated clip hanger and spray paint it as well.
- Use a Halloween stencil and liquid chalk to draw a 'Happy Halloween' message on the chalkboard.
- Wait for the liquid chalk to dry completely, then carefully peel off the stencil.
- Attach the cup hooks into the dowel and into the top of the chalkboard frame, connecting them with equal lengths of chain.
- Insert the dowel—now with the sign attached—back through the hole in the lamp post.
- Add final spooky touches: drape fake spiderwebs, perch a flying crow on the dowel, and place a fat yellow candle inside the lantern.
