These leftover candy cookies combine a simple buttery dough with a mix of chopped candy bars, M&Ms, and candy corn. After chilling the dough balls, bake them at 350°F for 12 minutes. Add extra candy on top while warm to prevent melting, then cool on a rack for a festive Halloween dessert.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt until evenly distributed, then set the mixture aside. Using a stand mixer or hand mixer, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture becomes light and creamy. Mix in the room-temperature egg until fully incorporated.
  2. Gradually add the prepared dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Pulse or mix on low speed just until the flour disappears, being careful not to overwork the dough.
  3. Gently fold the roughly chopped candy bars into the dough using a spatula until evenly distributed.
  4. Use a small cookie scoop to portion the dough into balls and place them on a baking sheet. Refrigerate the dough for at least one hour, or leave it in the fridge overnight.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C), or 160°C if using a fan oven. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Arrange the chilled dough balls on the sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each one. You may press additional candy onto the tops now, or wait until after baking. Note that candy corn will melt and spread if added before baking, so it is best to place those on top after the cookies come out of the oven while they are still warm.
  6. Bake the cookies for 12 minutes. Remove them from the oven and, while they are still warm, press on extra candy if you wish. Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
