These Halloween Misfortune Cookies are a fun and eerie treat for your spooky celebrations. The recipe yields thin, crispy cookies that are folded around printed misfortunes, then dipped in white chocolate and sprinkles. Store them in an airtight container to keep them crisp.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set your oven to 350°F to preheat.
- Whisk the egg whites in a bowl until they become frothy, then set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, sifted flour, salt, corn starch, and cinnamon. Create a well in the center, then pour in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Stir with a spatula, gradually incorporating the dry ingredients from the sides until fully combined.
- Add half of the frothy egg whites to the batter and stir until smooth. Then add the remaining egg whites and mix until well incorporated.
- If you want colored cookies, divide the batter into separate bowls and stir in your choice of food coloring.
- Drop six half-dollar-sized dollops of batter onto a non-stick baking mat (like a Silpat), spacing them about 3-4 inches apart. Using the back of a spoon, spread each dollop into a thin, even circle without creating any holes.
- Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the edges turn a light brown.
- Working quickly, use an offset spatula to flip each cookie. Place a printed misfortune message in the center, then fold the cookie in half lengthwise. Immediately fold it in half again, shaping it over the edge of a coffee mug. Set the folded cookie into a cupcake tin to hold its shape as it cools and hardens.
- Decorate the cooled cookies by dipping them into melted white chocolate chips and adding sprinkles.
- Keep the cookies in an airtight container to prevent them from softening and becoming chewy.
