Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set the oven to 350°F. Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit a 9x9 inch baking dish and line it. In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon baking soda, ½ cup dark cocoa powder, and ⅛ teaspoon salt.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl, using a stand or hand mixer, beat 1 large room-temperature egg, ¼ cup vegetable oil, ¼ cup whole milk, 1 cup dark brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir with a rubber spatula until just combined. The batter will be thick. Spread most of it into the prepared pan, reserving a few spoonfuls for later.
  4. Place a bag of orange candies in a microwave-safe bowl with a few drops of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring after each, until completely melted and smooth. Add 4 oz (1 brick) of cream cheese and beat with a mixer until fully combined.
  5. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter and spread it evenly.
  6. Drop the reserved brownie batter in small dollops on top of the cream cheese layer. Use a sharp knife or skewer to gently swirl the two batters together.
  7. Scatter 3–4 Oreos, broken into large chunks, over the surface.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  9. Let the brownies cool completely to room temperature. Slice into 9 equal squares and serve.
