Halloween Tablescape with a Spider-Web Tablecloth
Spin a web of terror with this spooky tablescape.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at betweennapsontheporch.net.
A Halloween tablescape featuring a spider-web tablecloth, a killer cafe menu, and themed drinks like Molten Lava, Swamp Juice, and Putrid Punch.
About this
A 2009 Between Naps on the Porch Halloween tablescape styled as a spooky 'Killer Cafe' dinner party. The table is draped in faux spider webs instead of a tablecloth, lit from beneath by a string of white lights, and set with thrifted and discount tableware plus glow-in-the-dark spider accents. It includes a full cream cheese frosting recipe used to tint Halloween cupcakes and a menu of ghoulish signature drinks, all shared as part of the Tablescape Thursday blog link party.
The plan
- Pick a spooky party concept — here the table is styled as the 'Killer Cafe' Halloween dinner experience
- Shop the tableware: thrift stores like A Classy Flea for dishes, and Walmart for the pumpkin salad plates
- Gather a discount or dollar-store prop such as the Killer Cafe menu board, and a standing tureen or candelabras for the centerpiece
- Bake and frost the Halloween cupcakes ahead and tint the icing with food coloring gels
- Plan the signature drink menu so guests can choose from the creepy options
- Set the table, add the spider-web cloth, and place lights underneath before guests arrive
- Photograph the finished tablescape and share it as part of a Tablescape Thursday blog link party (remember to link the permalink directly, add the party button, link back to the host, and only post once the tablescape post is live)
Decoration ideas
- Cover the table surface with faux spider webs instead of a tablecloth so the spiders 'make' the spider-web tablecloth
- Run a string of white lights underneath the table so the glow shines up through the web tablecloth
- Place small faux spiders on the glass stemware and on the soup tureen for extra creep factor
- Use black candelabras/candlesticks for a spooky-but-elegant look — spray paint thrifted ones if needed
- Stand a 'Killer Cafe' menu board from Dollar Tree upright on the table rather than hanging it
- Feature a Red Cliff Ironstone tureen as a centerpiece piece
- Set each place with pumpkin salad/dessert plates ($2 each from Walmart), which work for all of fall
- Use thrifted dinner plates and bowls from A Classy Flea ($12 for all of them)
- Bring in a floral arrangement for the background — the one shown normally lives on a chest in the upstairs family room and was found years ago at Old Time Pottery
Food & drink
- Halloween cupcakes with tinted cream cheese frosting, served in special cupcake cups and topped with jack-o-lantern toppers
- Cream cheese frosting tinted with Wilton Food Coloring Gels to match Halloween colors
- Ghoulish 'creepy' drink menu offering Molten Lava, Swamp Juice, and Putrid Punch
Activities
- Host a ghoulish 'Killer Cafe' Halloween dinner where guests dine on a spooky menu
- Challenge guests to 'dare to eat' — serve up the spidery, cobweb feast
- Stage a Tablescape Thursday link party where other bloggers post and visit each other's Halloween tablescapes
