"Homemade" Brings Us Together- Series Review

Netflix's Homemade is an anthology of 17 short films made by professional filmmakers in their own homes during the COVID-19 crisis, released at the end of June. Each short runs 4-10 minutes and the collection spans many genres, countries, and styles while evoking a feeling of community; the pieces are funny, sentimental, or horrific, and all carry a hint of oddity. Highlights include Paolo Sorrentino's Voyage Au Bout De Nuit (a 7-minute romance between the Pope and Queen Elizabeth as bobbleheads), Antonio Campos' darker Annex, and Rungano Nyoni's Couple Splits Up While in Quarantine LOL, told entirely through text messages. The review also notes that Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kristen Stewart direct segments about isolation, and concludes the series offers a realistic yet fantastical perspective on quarantine.
