Create convincing fake braces this Halloween with just wire, foil or duct tape, and a little patience.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at ehow.com.
This guide shows two easy methods for making fake braces using common household materials. The first uses aluminum foil brackets glued to a craft wire frame, while the second substitutes silver duct tape wraps for a different look. Both methods require careful spacing and sanding to ensure a comfortable fit.
You'll need
Directions
- Using pliers, snip a length of silver craft wire that can stretch across your front teeth with an extra inch on each side.
- Create eight tiny square brackets, each about 1/4 inch wide, from aluminum foil.
- Use super glue to attach each foil bracket to the wire, spacing them to match the natural positions of your eight front teeth.
- Let the glue dry completely before moving on.
- Lightly sand the wire ends or curl them under so they won't scrape your gums or lips.
- Place the wire against your teeth with each bracket centered on a tooth, then wrap the extra wire around your back teeth to hold it in place. Make a second set for top and bottom.
- As an alternative, you can use silver duct tape instead of foil. Start by cutting a length of craft wire as described in step 1.
- Cut eight strips of duct tape that are 1/4 inch wide and 1-1/2 inches long.
- Wrap a strip of duct tape around the wire at each spot where a bracket should go, building it up until it's about 1/4 inch thick, then trim off any excess tape.
- Space the tape brackets to align with your eight front teeth.
- Sand or curl the wire ends to prevent irritation.
- Position the braces on your teeth with each bracket centered, and secure the ends around your back teeth. Repeat to create a second set for the other arch.
