This guide outlines the process of constructing a large, illuminated ghost decoration using an inverted tomato cage, a foam ball, and white string lights. The steps include securing the cage, attaching the head and lights, draping a white covering for the body, and adding facial features with felt or tape.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Flip the metal tomato cage so the base is facing upward.
  2. Gather the top edges of the cage together and fasten them tightly using a rubber band or hair tie.
  3. Position the 6-inch foam ball at the very top of the inverted cage to serve as the ghost's head. Wrap the white light string around the metal frame and use twisty ties to hold the bulbs securely in place.
  4. Drape a white sheet or a white plastic tablecloth over the entire structure. While the exact dimensions vary based on the height of your specific cage, aim for a covering that is roughly 4.5 to 5 feet wide and extends about 6 to 7 feet in length to ensure full coverage. The plastic tablecloth option offers the benefit of being waterproof.
  5. Cut facial features from black felt, or alternatively, use black duct tape for a self-adhesive option. Apply spray adhesive to the back of the felt pieces and press them onto the fabric to create the eyes and mouth.
