Transform sugar cookie skulls into eerie candle decorations with black wax icing and optional wicks. Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, then decorate. Perfect for Halloween parties or ghoulish gatherings.

Ingredients

Equipment

  • skull-shaped cookie cutter
  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • wire rack

Directions

  1. Start with your sugar cookie dough, whether homemade or store-bought. Roll it out to a quarter-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  2. Using a skull-shaped cookie cutter, press out skull forms and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Heat your oven to 350°F and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cookie edges are just lightly golden. Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely.
  4. Take a small portion of icing or fondant and stir in black gel food coloring to make a dark 'candle wax'. Use this to decorate the cooled skull cookies so they resemble candles, and if you like, place a candle wick on top of each.
