This project guides you through creating a haunting centerpiece using painted limbs, floral foam, and festive accents in a stone-filled urn.
You'll need
Directions
- Collect a variety of dry twigs and limbs from your outdoor space, discarding any that bend too sharply since they will be difficult to arrange.
- Trim the wood to the desired length using pruning clippers, a power saw, or a manual hacksaw. To find the right height, measure from your tabletop up to the nearest ceiling light. Lay down a sheet of brown paper to protect your workspace, then rest the wood pieces on it.
- Apply two thin layers of black paint to the wood. For an even coat, keep the spray can 6 to 8 inches away from the branches and move it continuously side to side.
- Fill the bottom of your container with a layer of stones about 6 inches thick. This weight will keep the arrangement stable and prevent it from tipping over.
- Set the rounded floral block into the container with the curved side facing downward. Secure it by applying a line of hot adhesive around the inner rim.
- Push the painted limbs into the foam individually, making sure to leave at least one inch of space between each piece for a balanced appearance.
- Drape the preserved greenery over the exposed foam, attaching it firmly with hot adhesive.
- Attach your chosen spooky accents, like dangling rubber bats, to the limbs to complete the festive look.
