Making your house come ALIVE!!! Halloween decoration IDEAS - DIY - How to Make Tutorial

This project uses a large sheet of wood to create oversized monster teeth and cardboard to craft eerie eyes. With acrylics, spray paint, and simple household objects for tracing, you can make a house appear to come alive. The teeth can be wedged into columns, while the eyes hang with Command strips.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Sketch your design directly onto the plywood using a freehand approach.
  2. Cut out the shape with a saw.
  3. Apply a thick, messy layer of acrylic paint as the base coat.
  4. Form the teeth but leave space at the top—this will be hidden by the house when hung.
  5. Add a small amount of yellow paint around the gum areas.
  6. Use brown spray paint, applying it one tooth at a time. Take a sponge and blend while the acrylic is still wet for a nice effect.
  7. Spray red paint onto the gums and blend further. Then add more red spray paint to the teeth to simulate blood.
  8. Finish by spraying a little black paint around the edges.
  9. For spooky eyes, grab cardboard cake bases (or similar cardboard). Trace objects: a plastic plate for the eye shape, a spray paint can for the pupil, and a water jug for the eye color. Cut out the traced shapes.
  10. Color the eyes with permanent markers using two different greens.
  11. Add a bloodshot look to the eyes.
  12. Spray paint the edges of the eye pieces red and black.
  13. Seal both the front and back of the cardboard eyes with clear packing tape since they will be outdoors.
  14. Attach the eyes to the house using Command strips to avoid damaging the paint.
  15. For the teeth, leave a small lip on the wood so they can rest on the inner edge of a column, or use fishing line and paper clips if hanging from vents.
