These old-fashioned apple fritters are made with fresh Honey Crisp apples and a simple batter, then fried until golden and topped with a vanilla glaze. The recipe yields about 10-12 fritters, ideal for sharing or enjoying as a warm dessert.
Ingredients
Directions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in ⅓ cup milk, the eggs, and applesauce. Stir until the batter is smooth and fully combined.
- Peel the apples and cut them into small dice (not too tiny so you still taste them). Gently fold the apple pieces into the batter.
- In a deep pan or skillet, heat the canola oil to 375°F. When the oil is hot, carefully drop ¼ cup of batter into the oil. Fry each side for about 3 minutes, until golden brown.
- Remove the fritter from the oil and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat with the remaining batter; you should get 10 to 12 fritters.
- Transfer all the fritters to a wire rack set over a baking sheet to cool.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and ¼ cup milk to make the glaze.
- Pour the glaze over the fritters on the rack, letting it drip down. You can glaze them 2 to 3 times until the glaze is used up.
