Paper Weaving Jack-O'-Lantern
Weave colorful paper strips into a pumpkin that’s perfect for Halloween decorating.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at paper-and-glue.com.
This project turns orange scrapbook paper strips and construction paper into a woven pumpkin decoration. After weaving the strips over and under, you glue the piece to cardstock, trace and cut a pumpkin shape, and optionally add a stem and jack‑o‑lantern face.
You'll need
Directions
- Select several orange scrapbook papers with different patterns and cut them into strips that are the same length as your construction paper.
- Fold a sheet of construction paper in half lengthwise. Starting at the fold, cut straight lines toward the open edge, spacing them about 1/2 to 1 inch apart, and stop cutting about 1 inch from the edge. Unfold the paper.
- Weave one strip across the cut paper using a basic over‑under pattern, starting with over. Push each strip snugly upward as you complete it.
- Repeat the weaving process with the remaining strips until the entire construction paper sheet is covered.
- Apply glue to one side of the woven paper and attach it to a piece of cardstock.
- Allow the glue to dry completely.
- Once dry, flip the cardstock over and draw a pumpkin outline on the back. You may use a printable pumpkin template.
- Cut out the pumpkin shape along the drawn line, then glue it onto another piece of paper. For a jack‑o‑lantern look, optionally glue on a brown construction paper stem and cut out black construction paper shapes for the face.
