Pastel Halloween — "Not So Scary" Halloween party

Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at delilahspartyideas.com.

About this

A guide to throwing a "not so scary" pastel Halloween party, swapping the usual black, orange and purple for soft pinks, purple, turquoise, yellow and pale blues. It covers pastel-painted pumpkins, party decorations, costumes, themed food and drinks, and printable games. Everything is aimed at a sweet, kid-friendly Halloween celebration rather than a frightening one.

The plan

Decide on a Pastel Halloween theme — a less scary alternative that has become a popular trend

Choose a pastel color palette: whimsical soft pinks, purple, turquoise, yellow and pale blues instead of black, orange and purple

Pick up dollar store pumpkins and pastel acrylic paint for decorating

Gather party tableware in soft pink — plates, cutlery and paper straws — plus paper or plastic bats

Source Halloween headstones to repaint for the porch or yard

Plan costumes around the pastel palette (wigs, unicorn and mermaid costumes)

Bake sugar cookies using a Halloween cookie cutter set and theme-colored icing

Assemble a candy board with pastel-colored candies

Print out the pastel Halloween Bingo and I Spy games for guests

Decoration ideas

Paint dollar store pumpkins in shades of pink, blue, mint and purple; leave as is or add glitter or draw a face and words with a black marker

Set the scene with pink and black balloons

Use soft pink plates, cutlery and paper straws, finished off with paper or plastic bats

Hang LED ghost lights around the food table and attach paper bats to the wall behind it

Paint Halloween headstones pink, mauve or mint for a shabby chic porch or front yard look

Make a fluro pink DIY skull decoration, framed and illuminated, to hand out the front for Halloween

Add pink or pastel color to front porch and front yard decorations to match the theme

Food & drink

Sugar cookies made with a Wilton 101 cookie cutter set (which includes Halloween shapes) and iced with food color icing in theme colors

Scary skull cookies with colors matched to the pastel theme

Halloween candy board (charcuterie) filled with pastel colored candies

Halloween monster popcorn, colored in any pastel shade for a yummy but slightly spooky treat

Pink cotton candy candy apples made with Granny Smith green apples — the sweet cotton candy flavor isn't overwhelming and pairs well with the tart apples

Pink pumpkin cupcakes

Pastel pink milk (Nom Yen Thai pink milk)

Pumpkin maple poptarts

Halloween cake pops

Kids Halloween party drinks
