These homemade pumpkin dog treats combine bacon, pumpkin purée, and whole wheat flour for a savory, crunchy snack. Simply mix, roll, cut, and bake for 30 minutes. Store at room temperature or freeze for up to 3 months.
Ingredients
Directions
- Heat oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.
- Cook 4 strips of bacon using your preferred method until crisp. Transfer bacon to a plate or cutting board to cool slightly, then pour the rendered bacon fat into a medium bowl.
- Coarsely chop the cooled bacon and add it to the bowl with the bacon fat. Add ½ cup (122g) pumpkin purée and 1 large egg, then whisk until smooth. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons (323g) whole wheat flour and ½ tablespoon baking powder.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until combined. Add water or milk ½ to 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough holds together (you'll likely need 2 to 4 tablespoons total). Use your hands if needed.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll to about ¼-inch thickness. Cut with desired cookie cutter, reroll scraps, and cut again until no dough remains. Bake for 30 minutes, flipping treats halfway through. Store covered at room temperature or freeze for up to 3 months; thaw at room temperature.
