This recipe creates a two-layer cereal treat: a plain bottom layer and a pumpkin spice-flavored top layer tinted orange. The treats are pressed into a pan, cooled, and cut into squares for a fun Halloween or fall dessert.
Ingredients
Directions
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with butter and line it with parchment paper, leaving a 2-inch overhang on two sides. In a large pot over medium heat, melt 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) of the salted butter. Add one 10-ounce bag of marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat and stir in 6 cups of crispy rice cereal until well coated. Press the mixture firmly into the prepared pan and set aside.
- In a clean pot over medium heat, melt the remaining 1 stick (8 tablespoons) of butter. Add the remaining two 10-ounce bags of marshmallows and stir until melted. Mix in 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, 1/4 teaspoon yellow food coloring, and 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring until evenly blended. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 12 cups of cereal. Press this orange-tinted mixture firmly on top of the plain layer in the pan. Let cool completely, then use the parchment overhang to lift the treats out. Cut into squares.
