Tips
- Introduce Halloween decorations slowly. Allow your pet to sniff the box first, then gradually place decorations while rewarding with treats and petting.
- Supervise pets in costumes. Ensure the costume doesn't restrict movement or cause distress, and never leave your pet alone in their costume.
- Keep treats out of reach. Chocolate and xylitol are toxic to pets; also high sugar can cause health issues. Keep candy bowls and trick-or-treat bags away.
- Take extra safety measures for black cats: keep them indoors, microchip them, and use reflective collars if they go outside.
- Confine your pet to a safe, quiet room on Halloween night. Use calming music, toys, or anti-anxiety medication if needed.
- If taking your dog trick-or-treating, keep them on a leash, have an adult in charge, bring dog treats, be aware of other dogs, keep them hydrated, and bring poop bags.
- Ensure cats and dogs have identification: up-to-date ID tags and microchips.
- For small pets: move their cage to a quiet room, play soothing music, keep treats away, secure decorations and cords, and avoid costumes.
