These spider cookies combine classic peanut butter flavors with playful Halloween decorations. By baking simple dough balls and topping them with candy bodies and frosting details, you can create a delicious and festive treat that's sure to be a hit at any Halloween gathering.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the shortening, peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Mix in the egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Gradually fold in the flour, baking soda, and salt until a cohesive dough forms.
  2. Roll the mixture into 1-inch spheres and arrange them on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 375°F for 10 to 12 minutes, removing them from the oven as soon as the edges begin to show a light golden color.
  3. While the cookies are still warm, press Whoppers or Milk Duds onto the center of each one to create the spider bodies. Using one or two candies per cookie is fine depending on your preference. The residual heat will slightly melt the candy, allowing it to bond securely to the cookie as it cools. Avoid touching the treats until the candy has fully set.
  4. Apply a tiny dab of black decorator frosting onto the candy body to secure the candy eyes.
  5. Squeeze the frosting tube to draw eight thin legs extending outward from each candy body, completing the spider design.
