Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • parchment paper
  • cauldron cookie cutter
  • mixing bowls
  • whisk
  • rolling pin

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until everything is well incorporated.
  4. In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt, whisking to blend.
  5. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to a thickness of about 1/4 inch.
  7. Use a cauldron-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are just lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, use black food coloring gel to outline the cauldron body, then pipe orange and purple icing to create bubbling potion details.
