This DIY transforms a wooden crate into a decorative pumpkin for your porch. After painting the crate with a chippy orange finish, add a real tree branch as a stem, then top it off with a burlap bow and a grapevine tendril. It's an easy, natural-looking fall decoration.
You'll need
Directions
- Combine orange paint with water and use a chippy brush to apply a thin, uneven coat to the wooden crate, allowing some of the natural wood to show through.
- Select a tree branch, trim it to your desired length, and cut one end at an angle. Attach the branch to the top of the crate by driving screws from the inside.
- For the bow, cut two strips of burlap ribbon, one longer than the other. Fold the ends of each so they overlap in the center, then pinch and stack them. Secure with a zip tie, and add a small center piece cut with dovetailed ends.
- Use hot glue to attach the burlap bow to the base of the branch stem.
- Form a pumpkin tendril by wrapping grapevine wire around a cylindrical object, then hot glue the tendril beneath the stem.
