Ingredients
Directions
- Heat the oven to 375°F and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt with a whisk.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar with a hand mixer until the mixture turns light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the bowl and beat them in.
- Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, stirring just until a dough forms.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to about ¼-inch thickness using a rolling pin.
- Use the turkey cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, just until the edges are set but not browned. Let them rest on the pan for 2 minutes, then move them to a cooling rack.
- Divide the royal icing into separate bowls and color each one using orange, red, and yellow food coloring.
- With a piping bag, outline and fill the cookies to create feather, beak, and body details. Allow the icing to completely dry before stacking or serving.
