Create adorable ghost-shaped meringues using egg whites, sugar, and chocolate chips. Bake low and slow, then let them rest in the oven to crisp up for a delightful Halloween snack.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set your oven to 200°F and lay parchment paper on a baking sheet.
- In a bowl, combine 3 egg whites that have reached room temperature. Start beating them until they become frothy.
- Turn the mixer up to medium speed and add 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar. Keep beating until the egg whites form soft peaks.
- Increase to high speed and slowly incorporate 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla and 3/4 cup of fine sugar. Beat until the mixture holds stiff, shiny peaks.
- Transfer the meringue to a large zip-top bag, snip off a corner, and pipe 2-inch blobs onto the parchment.
- Press chocolate chips into each blob to create eyes and a nose.
- Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Turn off the oven and leave the ghost meringues inside for a minimum of 3 hours to fully set.
