Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at inmyownstyle.com.
This project shows you how to turn a foam or plastic pumpkin into a cute candy container. You'll use black chalkboard paint, sandpaper, and cabinet knobs to create a jar with feet and a lid. Once dry, simply fill it with candy and display it for Halloween.
You'll need
Directions
- Using a hotknife or craft knife, carefully cut around the top of your pumpkin to create a lid. Set the lid aside.
- Sand the cut edges with fine grit sandpaper until smooth. Spray the entire pumpkin—inside and out—with black chalkboard paint. Allow it to dry fully, then apply a second coat if you'd like better coverage.
- Check the top of the stem; if it's uneven, sand it down until it's flat. This will make it easier to glue a cabinet knob on later.
- Use chalk to mark four spots on the bottom for the feet. Then, using an awl or a Phillips head screwdriver, poke a hole through the pumpkin at each mark.
- Take each cabinet knob and unscrew the screw from its back. Set the screws aside.
- From inside the pumpkin, insert a screw into each hole so the tip pokes out. On the outside, screw a cabinet knob onto each protruding screw and tighten securely.
- Apply clear glue to the top of the stem and press a cabinet knob onto it. Allow the glue to dry completely. Then use chalk to write 'candy' on the side of the pumpkin.
- Finally, fill your pumpkin jar with your favorite candy treats.
