DIY Halloween Spell Book
Craft a creepy, ancient-looking spell book from a vintage thrift store find for a hauntingly authentic Halloween prop.
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at griffithsrated.blogspot.com.
Turn an old black vintage book into a DIY Halloween spell book by adding water-textured pages and aged, curled spell sheets. Print custom spells on copy paper, optionally bake them for a worn look, then glue them inside. Finish with a black ribbon down the middle for a mystical touch.
You'll need
Directions
- Source a black vintage book from a thrift store, ideally one with yellowed, aged pages.
- Use a squirt bottle to lightly spray water on the corners of the book pages while lifting them; this will make the paper pliable and create wavy texture.
- Print your spell pages on standard copy paper, trimmed to fit your book (for example, 8.25 inches by 5.5 inches, but adjust to your book's dimensions).
- Optional: Preheat oven to 200ºF, line a cookie sheet with foil, and mist the printed pages with water (after ink is dry). Bake for 5 to 7 minutes until the edges start curling.
- Attach the printed spell pages inside the book using Mod Podge or a spray adhesive.
- Apply super glue to a black ribbon and affix it down the center of the book's spine or cover.
