These ghoulish finger cookies are made from a simple sugar cookie dough tinted green, shaped into fingers, and topped with almond 'nails' and red jam 'blood'. Perfect for Halloween gatherings, they are as tasty as they are spooky.

Ingredients

Equipment

  • oven
  • cookie sheets
  • mixing bowl

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 325°F (165°C) to preheat.
  2. Beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until smooth. Mix in the egg and almond extract. In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt, then stir into the butter mixture. Add green food coloring until you reach your desired shade.
  3. Roll pieces of dough into finger shapes about 2 inches long. Press an almond into one end for the fingernail. Arrange them on ungreased baking sheets.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the edges turn lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let them cool.
  5. Press a small dab of red jam under the almond to mimic a bloody nail bed.
