Directions

  1. Download the 20-page PDF file containing instructions, supply list, printables, and setup guide.
  2. Gather supplies including cotton swabs, printer paper, a bike lock (or combination lock), black and orange balloons, and items for a giant spider DIY (cardboard, black paint).
  3. Set up the 'escape the house' scenario by locking the front door with the bike lock.
  4. Create the narrative theme: a witch living in the attic has locked the family in and stolen Halloween candy.
  5. Place the starting clue, a letter from 'Hutch Winter' (anagram of Witch Hunter), in an envelope on the kitchen table with treats.
  6. Set up challenges in the living room, hallway, and kitchen, such as climbing through a giant spider web to find clues.
  7. Include cooperative tasks, such as avoiding witch hats on the floor to steal the evil witch's broom.
  8. Allow participants to solve clues and unlock the front door to retrieve their stolen Halloween candy.
