Directions

  1. Search thrift stores, flea markets, or antique shops for ornate ceramic pieces that are affordable and feature many grooves, ridges, and decorative details.
  2. Spread newspaper or a drop cloth on an outdoor table, then coat each item evenly with matte black spray paint.
  3. Use a dust mask to cover your mouth and nose during the painting process.
  4. Remember that these painted ceramics are only for decoration; for actual dinnerware, purchase black plates from stores like Cost Plus or similar home goods retailers.
  5. After the paint has fully dried, begin arranging your table display.
  6. Combine many different items with diverse shapes and sizes to create visual interest.
  7. Build vertical elements in the middle by stacking unpolished silver candlesticks, chargers, plates, and cheesecloth gauze napkins in layers.
  8. Finish with a black paper rose bouquet and some spooky paper spiders to enhance the Halloween atmosphere.
