This DIY Halloween advent calendar features a black felt coffin with 31 pockets, each hiding a small surprise and activity card. Follow these steps to cut, decorate, and assemble the calendar, then attach a wooden dowel for hanging. It's a fun way to build excitement for October 31st.

You'll need

Directions

  1. Print the downloadable cutting diagram for the coffin.
  2. Use the diagram as a template to measure and cut a large coffin shape from the black felt.
  3. Measure and cut 31 felt squares, each exactly 3 inches by 3 inches, for the pockets.
  4. Print the downloadable numbers onto sturdy white paper, then cut them out.
  5. Decorate each felt pocket by gluing on items like Styrofoam bones, buttons, or felt skulls, and also attach one of the numbers to each pocket using hot glue.
  6. Adhere the decorated pockets onto the black felt coffin using hot glue, arranging them in a grid pattern to form a calendar.
  7. Add any final embellishments to the calendar, such as extra decorations around the edges.
  8. Attach a wooden dowel to the top edge of the calendar so it can be hung from a wall or door.
  9. Print the Halloween activity cards.
