This Halloween Brownie Graveyard is a fun and creepy dessert. It starts with a rich chocolate brownie base, then you carve graves, add cookie headstones, and decorate with skeleton bones and green frosting grass. The result is an eerie yet delicious treat perfect for Halloween parties.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Butter a 9x13-inch (23x33 cm) glass baking dish and line it with parchment paper.
  3. In a double boiler or a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water, melt the butter and chocolate together over low heat, stirring gently. Once melted, turn off the heat but leave the bowl over the water to keep it warm.
  4. Stir the sugar into the melted butter and chocolate mixture.
  5. In another bowl, whisk the eggs and vanilla together lightly. Pour this into the chocolate mixture and stir until completely combined. Add the flour and baking powder, mixing just until no dry streaks remain. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and smooth it evenly with a spatula.
  6. Bake for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center emerges clean.
  7. Let the brownie cool fully in the pan, then lift it out using the parchment paper.
  8. In a small bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar with the milk and stir until smooth.
  9. Add black food coloring a tiny bit at a time—I use a toothpick to add just a dab—until you get a stone grey tint.
  10. Spread this icing over the oval cookies and set them on a wire rack to dry.
  11. Fill the skeleton bone candy mold with melted white chocolate, place it in the fridge until set, then pop out the bones.
  12. Set the cooled brownie on a cutting board.
  13. Use a knife to cut three grave-shaped holes, each about 2¼ by 5 inches (6 x 13 cm), evenly spaced across the brownie.
  14. With a fork, rake the removed brownie pieces to create crumbly 'soil' and collect them in a bowl. Pile the crumbs back into the graves, then position the skeleton bones in and around the graves.
  15. Carefully cut a small slit at the head of each grave, then insert the grey iced cookies into the slits to serve as headstones.
  16. In a mixing bowl, stir the vanilla frosting with a few drops of green food coloring until you reach your preferred shade of green.
  17. Transfer the green frosting to a piping bag fitted with tip 233 and pipe grass-like tufts around the graves.
