Create a variety of Halloween character pops using Ding Dongs and Twinkies dipped in colored melting chocolate. Decorate with edible eyes, Tootsie Rolls, and piped chocolate to make witches, mummies, werewolves, vampires, pumpkins, Frankensteins, and bats. Each pop is set on a straw and assembled with simple techniques.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Melt the melting chocolate in a shallow bowl in the microwave for about 1 to 1.5 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  2. Place a Ding Dong or Twinkie on a straw, then dip it into the melted chocolate. Try to coat the straw area as well for better hold.
  3. Set the dipped treat on a non-stick surface like a Silpat mat or wax paper to dry.
  4. Add the edible eyes before the chocolate dries.
  5. Witch: Use a Ding Dong on a stick and green melting chocolate. Dip, add eyes, then shape a Fruity Tootsie Roll into a cone nose and place below the eyes. Melt dark chocolate, pour into a baggie, snip a tiny tip, and pipe hair. On the non-stick surface, pipe a hat shape with dark chocolate and let dry. Peel the hat off, add a bit of melted chocolate to the top of the head as glue, press the hat on, and hold until set. Pipe a small mouth.
  6. Mummy: Use a Twinkie. Use a taller container for melting chocolate so you can dip the Twinkie deeply. Dip, add eyes, and let dry. Once dry, pour melted chocolate into a baggie and pipe back and forth across the mummy to create bandages.
  7. Werewolf: Dip a Ding Dong in dark chocolate, then add chocolate sprinkles for fur (add eyes before sprinkles). Pipe triangle ears on a non-stick surface and let dry. Attach ears with melted chocolate as glue, holding until they stay. Pipe white chocolate, let dry, cut into triangles for teeth, and attach with melted chocolate to the mouth area.
  8. Vampire: Dip a Ding Dong in white chocolate. Pipe dark chocolate from a baggie for hair and a suit coat at the bottom of the face and mouth. Cut teeth from dried white chocolate. Make a bowtie from two triangles cut from a Fruity Tootsie Roll.
  9. Pumpkin: Dip a Ding Dong in orange melting chocolate, add eyes, and stick a Fruity Tootsie Roll on top.
  10. Frankenstein: Dip a Ding Dong in green melting chocolate and add eyes. Pipe hair and mouth with dark chocolate. Place half a Tootsie Roll on each side of the head.
  11. Bat: Dip a Ding Dong in chocolate and add eyes. Pipe wings on a non-stick surface, let dry, and attach with melted chocolate as glue. Add white triangle teeth.
