Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at iheartnaptime.net.
This Halloween dirt cake features an Oreo crust, a creamy filling made from cream cheese, Cool Whip, and vanilla pudding, and is topped with Oreo crumbs. For a spooky touch, Milano cookies are decorated with 'RIP' and placed on top alongside pumpkin candies. The dessert needs to chill for 4 hours before serving.
Ingredients
Directions
- Pulse 36 whole Oreos in a food processor or blender until they become fine crumbs. Set aside 1/2 cup of the crumbs for the topping. Mix the remaining crumbs with 3 tablespoons of melted salted butter until combined. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place the dish in the freezer or refrigerator for 5 minutes to set.
- In a medium bowl, beat 8 ounces of softened cream cheese and 5 tablespoons of softened salted butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add 2/3 cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and mix until smooth. Gently fold in 8 ounces of thawed Cool Whip until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together two 3.9-ounce boxes of instant vanilla pudding and 2 1/2 cups of whole milk until the mixture thickens. Let it sit for a few minutes to fully set. Then fold the pudding into the cream cheese mixture until combined.
- Spread the filling evenly over the chilled Oreo crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup of Oreo crumbs over the filling. Cover the dish loosely with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Just before serving, use a black writer to write 'RIP' on 8 to 12 Milano cookies. Place the cookies on top of the dirt cake and add 8 to 12 pumpkin candies for decoration.
