These Halloween dirt cups feature a rich chocolate pudding made from scratch, topped with crushed Oreo cookie dirt and gummy worms. Vanilla wafer cookies decorated with “R.I.P.” stand upright as tombstones, making a spooky yet delicious treat.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1/4 cup cornstarch, and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Add 3 cups whole milk and 4 large egg yolks, and whisk until smooth. Place over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula, until the mixture comes to a simmer and thickens to a pudding-like consistency, about 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in 6 1/2 ounces bittersweet chocolate (broken into pieces), 2 tablespoons salted butter, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract until fully melted and smooth.
  2. Divide the pudding evenly among six 10-ounce glass tumblers. Refrigerate for about 1 hour until set.
  3. Sprinkle the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies over the pudding to create a dirt layer. Add gummy worms and candies, partially burying them in the cookie crumbs so they look like they are crawling out of the dirt.
  4. Using an edible marker, write “R.I.P.” on the vanilla wafer sandwich cookies. Place one cookie upright in each glass like a tombstone.
