These flickering spider jars are a simple Halloween craft using upcycled jars, frosted spray paint, and remote-controlled tea lights. With just a few materials—including spider webs and rubber spiders—you can create a glowing, spooky decoration that's perfect for your Halloween setup.

You'll need

Directions

  1. If you're using recycled jars, fill your sink with hot, soapy water and let the jars sit for about 15 minutes to loosen the labels. Scrub them off with a brush—they should slide right off.
  2. At least two days before you plan to assemble the jars, spray paint the lids. Use black or brown paint and let them dry thoroughly.
  3. Spray the inside and outside of the glass jars with frosted glass spray paint. Allow them to dry for 1 to 2 days. The paint will look light at first but will become more opaque as it dries.
  4. Once the jars are dry, place one remote control tea light inside the bottom of each jar.
  5. Cut lengths of white spider web about 4 to 5 inches long. Fluff them up a bit, then attach a rubber spider to two opposite sides. Slide the web into the jar, positioning it above the tea light.
  6. Screw the painted lid onto the jar, then turn on the tea light to see your flickering spider jar glow!
