About this

A fan guide to the real-world filming locations of the 1978 horror classic Halloween, mapping the four houses shown in the film and many other Southern California sites. It pairs the original movie scenes with present-day details and photos (shot in 2002 by filmmaker David Winning, used with permission). The page covers Hollywood, South Pasadena, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, and Alhambra addresses, plus a warning not to disturb the private residents.

Tips

  • These are private homes; do not trespass, knock on doors, or disturb the residents.
  • The Myers house originally stood at 707 Meridian Avenue and now sits on the east side of Meridian at 1000 Mission Street, next to the railroad tracks.
  • The west side of Meridian was leveled; the empty field has since been built over with condos.
  • Pasadena's own Orange Grove Avenue, where the annual Rose Parade begins, is three streets west of Meridian Avenue.
  • South Pasadena High School was renovated in the late '90s, so it no longer looks exactly the same.
  • As of 2008, the former hardware store space at 966 Mission Street houses a wine restaurant called "750 ml".

Facts from the original

  • Four separate houses are shown in the 1978 Halloween: the old Myers house, Laurie's house, the house where Annie babysat, and the house where Laurie babysat.
  • The original Myers house and Laurie's house are both in South Pasadena, California.
  • The two babysitting houses are in Hollywood, right across the street from each other.
  • Both residential neighborhoods look similar, with large street trees and wood-frame homes, even though they are 15 miles apart.
  • The film was set in the fictional Midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois.
  • Two of the film's familiar houses are on Orange Grove Avenue in Hollywood, just north of Sunset Blvd.
  • The Doyle residence, where Laurie babysat Tommy, is at 1530 N. Orange Grove Avenue, on the east side between Sunset Blvd and Selma Ave.
  • The Wallace residence, where Annie was murdered while babysitting (the house with the jack-o-lantern on the porch), is at 1537 N. Orange Grove Avenue, on the west side between Sunset Blvd and Selma Ave.
  • Scenes were also filmed 15 miles east of Hollywood in South Pasadena, where the streets resemble Orange Grove Avenue.
  • The Myers house was empty and abandoned when producers used it in the film.
  • The Myers house has since been moved to the other side of the street and now serves as the Alegria Chiropractic Center.
  • The Myers house is now on the east side of Meridian, just north of Mission Street, at 1000 Mission Street, next to the railroad tracks.
  • All the other homes that originally lined the west side of Meridian were torn down, leaving only an empty lot.
  • Jamie Lee Curtis made her movie debut in Halloween.
  • The opening shot of Haddonfield was photographed at the intersection of Montrose Avenue and Oxley Street, looking west down Oxley.
  • Laurie Strode's house is at Oxley and Fairview.

  • The stone fence in the station wagon scene is at the south east corner of that block.
  • The graveyard scenes were filmed at Pioneer Cemetery, 553 E. Sierra Madre Blvd, Sierra Madre, CA.
  • Sierra Madre was also where the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers was filmed.
  • The elementary school where Laurie picks up Tommy was Garfield Elementary School, 110 W. McLean Street (at 2nd St.), Alhambra, CA.
  • The same school was used for the high school classroom interior where Laurie sees the Shape out the window.
  • The high school Laurie and her friends attended was South Pasadena High School, 1401 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena, CA.
  • The hardware store where Michael Myers got his mask and knife was at 966 Mission Street, South Pasadena, CA.
  • The photographs on the page were shot in 2002 by director and filmmaker David Winning, a big Halloween fan, and are used with his permission.
