Halloween Gingerbread House
Build a spooky gingerbread house using graham crackers and simple icing—no baking required!
Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at iheartnaptime.net.
This Halloween gingerbread house is made from graham crackers and a powdered sugar icing. Cut the crackers into house shapes, assemble with icing, and let dry before decorating with candy. It's a fun, no-bake project for the holiday.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set graham crackers on a cutting board and use a serrated knife to cut them. If you have cake boards, place houses on those, or glue two full crackers together for a base. For one house, you'll need 5 crackers. To make the front, cut from the right middle edge diagonally to the top left of a whole cracker, using a sawing motion, then break off the piece.
- Next, cut a triangle from the left middle side to create a house shape for the front. Repeat with another whole cracker for the back.
- For the sides, break one cracker in half. For the roof, cut off 1/4 of a cracker. Repeat to make 4 sets of front, back, sides, roof, and base.
- In a medium bowl, mix powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon water. Add another tablespoon water and stir until clumpy but combined.
- If needed, add water 1 teaspoon at a time until smooth but thicker than typical icing so it won't run. Test by lifting the spoon and turning it over; icing should stay in place. If it drizzles, add 1-2 tablespoons powdered sugar.
- Spoon the icing into a zip-top bag and snip the corner for piping.
- Pipe icing onto the edges of the front and one side piece (work two pieces at a time). Hold together for about 15 seconds until they stick. Pipe icing around the bottom edges and gently press onto the base. Add the other sides and roof. Draw a line of icing around the base for extra sturdiness.
- Let the house dry for about 30 minutes before decorating with candy. Place desired candies in bowls and decorate as you like.
