This guide walks you through building a festive edible structure using graham crackers and melted chocolate as mortar, finished with a variety of Halloween candies for decoration.
You'll need
Directions
- Take your three graham crackers and snap each one cleanly down the middle. For the cleanest break, lightly score the center line with a serrated knife first, then apply gentle pressure to snap them apart.
- Gather five of the resulting halves and set them aside. Take the sixth half and slice it in half once more. Throw away one of these smaller pieces, and slice the remaining piece diagonally to create a triangular wedge that will serve as your roof's ridge support.
- Transfer your chocolate chips into a resealable plastic bag. Heat them in the microwave in short bursts of thirty seconds, stirring between intervals, until the chips have completely liquefied. Trim a tiny corner off the bag to create a makeshift piping tip, then squeeze a line of the warm chocolate along the base of your triangular ridge support.
- Position the chocolate-coated ridge support at the peak of one of the reserved graham cracker halves. Lay the entire assembly flat on your work surface to stabilize it.
- Apply melted chocolate to the edges of two additional graham cracker halves and press them against the ridge support to form the sloping sides of the roof. To keep the first side steady while you attach the second, prop it up against a small cup or glass until the chocolate sets enough to hold its shape.
- Spread melted chocolate along the bottom edges of two more graham cracker halves and attach them vertically to the sides of the roof structure to create the front and back walls of your house.
- Transfer the assembled structure to the refrigerator or freezer for 15 to 20 minutes to allow the chocolate adhesive to harden completely. Once firm, remove and adorn with your favorite Halloween treats.
