Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at smartschoolhouse.com.
This recipe turns vanilla ice cream into two Halloween-colored treats by adding Lime and Grape Jello powders. You'll need to freeze the ice cream bowl ahead, churn the base, then quickly mix in the powders before freezing again. The result is a fun, custom-flavored ice cream perfect for Halloween parties.
Ingredients
Directions
- Ensure the KitchenAid ice cream maker bowl has been frozen for at least 15 hours before you begin.
- Set two glass bowls in the freezer for about 30 minutes to chill them thoroughly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the Junket Ice Cream Mix (Very Vanilla), 1 1/4 cups whole milk, and 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream until the mix is completely dissolved.
- Attach the frozen ice cream bowl to the mixer, set it to 'stir', and carefully pour the vanilla mixture into the bowl.
- Allow the mixture to churn for 25 to 30 minutes until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- Remove the two chilled glass bowls from the freezer. Use a spatula to evenly divide the vanilla ice cream between them.
- Quickly stir 2 to 4 teaspoons of Lime Jello powder into one bowl and Grape Jello powder into the other bowl, mixing gently until the color and flavor are uniform. Work fast to keep the ice cream from melting—the frozen bowls help with this.
- Transfer each colored ice cream into a sealable freezer-safe container, such as a glass container with a lid.
- Cover the container and freeze for 1 to 2 hours before serving for a firmer texture. For a soft-serve consistency, you can enjoy it immediately.
