These Halloween Mummy Breakfast Rolls are a fun and festive way to start the day. Made from pizza dough wrapped around a hearty filling of scrambled eggs, cheese, sausage, and bacon, they're baked until golden and topped with candy eyes. Serve with red-tinted hollandaise sauce for a creepy but delicious finish.
Ingredients
Directions
- Set your oven to 380°F to preheat.
- On a clean surface, unroll the pizza dough and stretch it into an 18x12-inch rectangle.
- Slice the dough lengthwise down the middle, then make two even cuts across to create six equal rectangles.
- In the center of each dough piece, layer shredded cheddar, scrambled eggs, crumbled sausage, chopped bacon, and a little more cheese.
- Using clean kitchen shears, snip the edges of each dough square every ¼ to ½ inch, cutting about 1 inch deep to create a fringe.
- Crisscross the fringed strips over the filling by gently stretching each piece across to the opposite side, then pinching the ends underneath to secure. Repeat until all dough is crisscrossed and a mummy shape forms.
- Designate one end of each mummy as the head. About 1 inch from the top, use shears or your fingers to create an opening where the candy eyes will go after baking.
- Place the mummies on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well, then generously brush the mixture over each mummy.
- Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, until the tops are deep golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes.
- Insert two candy eyes into the openings you made earlier, then transfer the mummies to a serving platter or plates.
- Just before serving, add a few drops of red food coloring to the warm hollandaise sauce (start with about 8 drops and adjust to your desired color). Serve the mummies with the colored hollandaise.
