These Halloween spider cookies start with a soft peanut butter dough, topped with a frozen Reese's cup and candy eyes. After baking, you pipe chocolate legs to complete the spider look. A quick chill in the fridge sets everything perfectly for a spooky treat.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Set your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, peanut butter, egg, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and milk.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, beating until fully combined.
  5. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls.
  6. Roll each ball in the reserved 1/4 cup sugar, then place them about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the cookies are golden brown.
  8. Immediately after baking, press a frozen Reese's cup upside down into the top of each cookie, then transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.
  9. While the chocolate is still slightly soft, press two candy eyes onto each Reese's cup to make the spider's face.
  10. Refrigerate the cookies for 10 minutes to allow them to firm up.
  11. Place the chocolate chips in the corner of a zippered sandwich bag.
  12. Microwave the bag for 20 seconds, knead it, and repeat until the chocolate is fully melted.
  13. Snip a tiny piece off the corner of the bag, then pipe eight legs onto each spider cookie.
  14. Refrigerate again for 10 minutes to allow the legs to set.
