Our own summary of the original — the full post and photos live at hgtv.com.
This DIY bat costume uses black felt, pipe cleaners, and hook-and-loop tape. Measure your pet's chest, cut wing shapes, and assemble with adhesive and a felt strap. It's a simple no-sew project that will make your pet the cutest creature of the night.
You'll need
Directions
- Print two copies of both the right and left wing templates. Place one right and one left together on a flat surface to form a complete wing shape, then tape them together at the center. Repeat this for the other pair.
- Pin the templates onto black felt and cut around them. You'll get two sets of felt wings; set one set aside for now.
- Using the marked lines near the center of the template as a guide, cut two slits each 2 inches long on one set of wings with a craft knife and a straight ruler.
- Measure your pet's chest behind their front legs with a fabric tape measure. Cut a black felt strip 1-1/2 inches wide and 2 inches longer than that measurement. Lay the wing set with slits flat and spray it evenly with spray adhesive.
- Feed the long felt strip through the back of one slit, over the top of the adhesive-coated wings, and out through the other slit, leaving about half the strip on each side. Press the strip firmly against the adhesive to secure it.
