These Halloween sugar cookie bars combine a soft, buttery base with a vibrant orange frosting and festive sprinkles. The recipe requires 1 cup of softened butter, 2 cups of sugar, 4 eggs, 2 teaspoons of vanilla, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 5 cups of flour for the dough. The frosting is made with 2 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, 1/2 cup of softened butter, 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract, and 3 tablespoons of milk, along with orange food coloring and Halloween sprinkles. Ingredients

Directions

  1. Line a large baking pan measuring approximately 12 by 17 inches with nonstick spray or parchment paper, then place it to the side.
  2. Using a mixer on medium speed, blend the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Beat in the eggs individually, ensuring each one is fully mixed before adding the next. Scrape down the bowl's edges, stir in the vanilla extract, and blend until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking soda. Gradually pour the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing gently until the dough just comes together.
  4. Spread the dough uniformly across the prepared pan. Bake at 375°F for 15 minutes, or until the edges turn a light golden color. Take the pan out of the oven and let it cool completely.
  5. For the topping, beat the softened butter with a hand mixer until creamy. Stir in the almond extract, orange food coloring, and 2 tablespoons of milk until the mixture is smooth.
  6. Gradually add the powdered sugar, incorporating about half a cup at a time to prevent it from flying out. Mix in the remaining tablespoon of milk. If a deeper orange hue is desired, add more food coloring now and blend well.
  7. Spread the frosting over the cooled bars and immediately press the Halloween sprinkles on top. Slice the bars into 36 to 40 pieces. Keep them in a sealed container, and feel free to prepare them a day ahead for easy serving.
