Learn how to create a realistic skeleton face using white and black face paint, plus a few key brushes. This guide walks you through priming your skin, painting the base, adding eye sockets and teeth, and setting the look with powder. By the end, you'll have a hauntingly accurate skeleton makeup that will impress on the dance floor.

Directions

  1. Start by applying a primer all over your face and neck. This helps the makeup stick and stay put during all your Halloween activities.
  2. Use a beauty blender to apply white face paint to your face and neck for a translucent finish. Cover your lips and ears as well, but leave the eye area blank because you'll fill it in later with black.
  3. Take a black crayon pencil and trace a circular shape around each eye, following the curve of your eyebrows.
  4. Over your nose, draw an "M" shape where one arch is higher than the other.
  5. From the corners of your mouth, draw lines outward to form the base for skeleton teeth. Then, from those lines, draw a "V" shape going towards your ears using the black crayon.
  6. Use a flat brush and black face paint to fill in the eye circles. It's okay if they're not perfect—slightly smudged and uneven looks more realistic.
  7. Also fill in your nose with black paint.
  8. Using a brush, extend lines from your eyes to emphasize your brow bones.
  9. With black liquid liner, draw vertical lines on your lips to create teeth. To give the illusion of a skeleton jaw, make the middle line longest and gradually shorten lines as you go outward. Ensure the same number of lines on each side and try to keep them even.
  10. Employ a flat brush and black face paint to darken the hollows of your cheeks. Then smudge black paint into your hairline and blend it. Keep it messy for a more authentic skeleton look.
  11. Set the white paint by dusting translucent powder over your face and neck with a powder brush.
  12. Use black eyeshadow and an eyeshadow brush to set the black paint and prevent creasing. Also use the black powder to smudge the edges around your hairline, brow bones, nose tip, and cheek hollows.
  13. With a pencil brush, shade the teeth using black powder. Create a "V" shape on the upper row of teeth and an inverted "V" on the bottom row.
  14. Using a flat pointed brush, fill in the teeth with white paint to make them stand out. Use quick flicking motions to avoid disturbing the black shadow.
  15. Highlight your forehead and cheekbones by applying white paint to those areas.
  16. Apply black eyeshadow along your jawline with a powder brush, blending it into the hollows of your cheeks.
  17. Now that you've mastered skeleton face painting, you're ready to hit the dance floor like a true spooky specter!
