Our own summary of the original by Amy (Savory Moments) — the full post and photos live at savorymomentsblog.blogspot.com.
These maple walnut cookies are made with real maple syrup and loaded with chopped walnuts. They bake up soft and chewy, with a hint of maple in every bite. For an extra touch, sprinkle maple sugar on top before baking.
Ingredients
Directions
- Heat your oven to 350°F and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, egg, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- In another bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined. Then gently fold in the chopped walnuts until evenly distributed.
- Scoop out dough by rounded tablespoons and roll into balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart, then lightly press down each ball with your fingertips to flatten slightly.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges turn golden and the bottoms are browned. The centers will look a bit underdone, which ensures a soft texture. Transfer the baking sheet to a wire rack to cool.
- Continue shaping and baking the remaining dough in batches. Store the cooled cookies in an airtight container.
- If you happen to have maple sugar on hand, sprinkle a little over the tops of the cookies just before baking for extra flavor.
